Broncos Bantam Draft Class of 2016
SWIFT CURRENT, SK – The Swift Current Broncos selected eight 2001 born players in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
Swift Current had two 1st round selections, their 4th overall pick and the 17th pick which they acquired from Saskatoon in last season’s Brycen Martin trade. Swift Current selected Humboldt, Saskatchewan product Logan Barlage with the 4th pick. Barlage had an impressive 60 goals, 65 assists for 125 points in 30 games with the Humboldt Bantam AA Broncos. Barlage is 6’3 190 pounds.
“You don’t often see someone that big and that skilled at this age group” said Broncos assistant general manager Jamie Porter of Barlage

“He’s a big, skilled right shot centre. He can play along the wall, and in front of the net. He has a great set of hands” added Porter.
The Broncos took puck moving defenseman Jacson Alexander with their 2nd first round pick, 17th overall. The 5’9 160 pound native of Victoria, BC had 9 goals, 13 assists and 24 penalty minutes in 24 games with Shawinigan Lake Bantam Prep School.
“Jacson is a dynamic skater with an excellent hockey sense” said Porter in his assessment of Alexander.
“He plays a physical game in open ice and moves the puck very well”.
The Broncos added six more picks on draft day. Porter called the class of 2016 “a good mix of skill, size, character and skating ability”.

4th round- Nolan Corrado F Campbell River BC, Pursuit of Excellence HA Bantam Prep 5’11 150 lbs 25gp 5g 0a 5 points
6th round- Isaac Poulter G Winnipeg Bantam AAA Monarchs 5’9 140 lbs 17gp 2.25 GAA
6th round- Nolan Renwick F Milestone SASK Notre Dame Bantam AAA 5’11 164 lbs 38gp 11g 19a 30 points
7th round- Chad Smithson D Winnipeg Hawks Bantam AAA 5’10 153lbs 32gp 7g 1a 8 points
