Broncos Dump Blades

19-Feb-12

Multi-point efforts from Reece Scarlett (2A), Colby Cave (3A), Taylor Vause (1G,1A), Brad Hoban (3A), Graham Black (1G,1A), Josh Derko (1G,1A), Levi Bews (2G) and Coda Gordon (2G) would pace the Swift Current Broncos to an outstanding 8-3 victory over the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night at the Credit Union iPlex.

A power play marker by Coda Gordon minutes in would open the scoring and put the Broncos on the board with an early 1-0 lead.  Ryon Moser would up the Broncos lead to two midway through the first frame with his 12th of the season.  A Roughing call to Graeme Craig shortly after would give the Blades their first power play of the evening, but Josh Derko would kill their momentum with a shorthanded single less than a minute into the man advantage.  Levi Bews would wrap up the scoring in the first period with his seventh of the season in the final minute of the frame to give the Broncos a dominant 4-0 lead heading into the second frame.

About five minutes into the middle frame, Bews would come back with his second of the evening to put the Broncos up by five.  The goal would ultimately end goaltender Andrey Makarov's evening as Adam Todd would fill in for the duration of the contest.  The Blades would finally retaliate late into the second frame as Josh Nicholls would record his 24th of the campaign and put Saskatoon within five.  Captain Taylor Vause would respond a minute later lighting the lamp with his 33rd of the season to restore the Broncos powerful six-goal lead.

Early into the final frame Lukas Sutter would find a way past netminder Jon Groenheyde to make it a 6-2 contest.  But, rookie Gordon would retaliate with his second power play marker of the season to put the Broncos up by five once again.  Czech product Matej Stransky would capitalize on a Blades power play opportunity under a minute later, but Graham Black would wrap up the scoring around the midway mark of the final frame to seal the deal and make it a 8-3 final.

The Broncos outshot the Blades 45-36 and went 2/7 on the man advantage.
