Broncos Fall to Americans
20-Oct-12The Swift Current Broncos dropped a 2-1 decision to the visiting Tri-City Americans Saturday night in front of a crowd of 2,239.
Play would remain scoreless for the majority of regulation as strong defence on both sides would see a lot of action in the neutral zone. But, a Holding call to Graham Black near the midway mark of the third period would send the Americans onto their second power play of the evening where Mitch Topping would capitalize opening the scoring and giving the Americans a one-goal lead. The Broncos would strike back shortly after though as overage forward Chance Lund would rally his fourth of the season and tie the contest up at one. With minutes remaining in regulation Connor Rankin would restore Tri-City's one goal lead on his sixth of the year. Under a minute and a half remaining in play, the Broncos would pull netminder Eetu Laurikainen for the extra man in hopes of tying it up. But, goaltender Eric Comrie would stand strong shutting the door resulting in a 2-1 final.
Shots were relatively even with the Broncos taking a slight edge at 25-24. Swift Current went 0 for 2 on the man advantage.
