Broncos Put Up Valiant Effort Yet Fall to Blades

The Swift Current Broncos put up a valiant effort like always, yet fell 5-3 to the visitng Saskatoon Blades on Fan Appreciation Night.

Nick Zajac would open the scoring six minutes into play to give the Blades an early one goal lead.  But, captain Taylor Vause would respond for the Broncos around the midway mark of the first frame with his 37th of the season to lock the contest up at one.  A quick set of back-to-back power play markers by Matej Stransky and Josh Nicholls would turn the tables to the Blades favour after 20 minutes.

Nicholls would tally his second of the evening around the halfway mark of the second frame to up the Blades lead to three.  But, this time it was 20-year old Brad Hoban’s turn to round up a marker as he followed through off of a beautiful feed from Vause to cut into the Blades lead making it 4-2 after two periods.

In the third period defenceman Reece Scarlett would capitalize on the Broncos fourth power play of the evening to make it a one-goal game.  In the dying seconds of play the Broncos would pull netminder Jon Groenheyde for the extra man, but an empty netter by Connor Cox would seal the deal and make it a 5-3 final.

The Broncos outshot the Blades 33-29 and went 1/7 on the power play.

UP NEXT:  The Broncos travel to Saskatoon to take on the Blades Saturday night in their final game of the 2011-12 season.
