Broncos Take Giant Win Over Hitmen; Extend Win Streak to Four

The Swift Current Broncos displayed a solid 60-minute effort to defeat the Eastern Conference leaders, Calgary Hitmen, 4-3 Saturday night in front of a crowd of 2,336.

Adam Lowry would open the scoring roughly three minutes in on his 29th of the season to give Swift Current an early lead.  New Jersey Devils’ prospect Graham Black would follow suit minutes later tallying his 18th of the season and extending the Broncos lead to two goals.  But, in the dying seconds of the first frame Calgary’s Zane Jones would put the Hitmen on the board to cut into Swift Current’s lead and make it 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Calgary’s Jake Virtanen would tally the equalizer around the midway mark of the second period.  Then, roughly two minutes later Chase Lang would notch his third of the season and give the Hitmen their first lead of the night.  The goal would mark the end of Eetu Laurikainen’s night as back up netminder Landon Bow would fill in between the posts for the duration of play.  A cross-checking call to Alex Roach shortly after would give the Broncos their third power play opportunity of the evening.  Defenceman Richard Nedomlel would capitalize on the man advantage following through off of a feed from Coda Gordon and locking the game at three.

Play would remain tied until roughly 10 minutes in when Colby Cave would shoot one past netminder Chris Driedger and give the Broncos their second lead of the evening.  In the dying minutes of play the Hitmen would pull netminder Driedger for the extra attacker in hopes of sending the contest to overtime, but the Broncos would play a strong defensive game limiting scoring chances and resulting in a 4-3 final.

The Broncos outshot the Hitmen 35-20 and went 1 for 4 on the man advantage.
