The Swift Current Broncos welcomed the Medicine Hat Tigers for a Saturday night matinee at the Credit Union i-Plex after returning from Prince Albert with a 5-2 win on Friday night.

Before the game, Broncos’ Governor Al Stewart presented athletic trainer Jamie LeBlanc with a gift for working his 1000th game in his junior hockey league career.

The Broncos opened the scoring quickly as Arthur Miller raced down the left wing and sniped one by the blocker side of Nick Schneider to give his club a 1-0 lead and send the crowd into a frenzy.

Medicine Hat took advantage of a power play chance halfway through the first period as David Quenneville scored from the corner faceoff dot with a hard wrist shot to tie the game 1-1. Chad Butcher and Mason Shaw drew the assists on the goal.

The Tigers put the pressure on the Broncos in the second period but goaltender Taz Burman stood tall, stopping all 13 shots he faced to keep the game knotted at one through 40 minutes of play.

On a Bronco power play in the third period, it was Mark Rassell who scored the tie-breaking goal for Medicine Hat. Rassell collected a loose puck in front of the Broncos cage after a mad scramble with both clubs and smacked it home to earn his fourth goal of the season.

Max Gerlach added an insurance marker for the Tigers at the 19:04 mark of the third period as Swift Current was outshot 22-6 in the frame.

Medicine Hat outshot Swift Current by a 44-28 margin and finished 2/5 on the power play while the Broncos went 0/6.

Swift Current wraps up their three-in-three set on the road Sunday afternoon as they will face the defending WHL Champion Brandon Wheat Kings at 3:00pm MT.
