Graham Shines Again in Broncos Win

Lucas Chudleigh

The Swift Current Broncos continued their stretch of facing East Division opponents Wednesday night as they duelled the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.

The first period saw the Broncos get off to a slow start as they were outshot 17-9 but Broncos goaltender Taz Burman was up to the challenge, backstopping all 17 shots he faced to keep the game scoreless through 20 minutes.

37 seconds into the second period, newly acquired forward Ryan Graham continued his hot start as he scored his third goal of the season to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead. Graham made a pivot move from the right faceoff dot to create space and rifled a high wrist shot by the glove hand of Raiders netminder Nicholas Sanders.

Cavin Leth answered the door for Prince Albert on the power play as he wired a high wrist shot that picked the corner to tie the game 1-1 at the 12:14 mark. Shots were 28-20 in favour of the Raiders heading into the third period.

The Broncos made use of their man advantage in the final period as Graham scored his second marker of the night and third in his past two games to restore Swift Current’s one-goal margin. Max Lajoie and Aleksi Heponiemi drew the assists on the play.

Lajoie added an empty netter late to seal the 3-1 Swift Current win. Burman was terrific for the Broncos, making an impressive 33 saves as the Broncos have now won two straight games.

Special teams play helped the Broncos in this one as they went 1/3 on the power play and killed off six of seven penalties. Shots on goal were 34-31 for Prince Albert.

Next up, the Broncos will head west to take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the first time this season on Friday night. Puck drop is set for 8:00pm CT.
