Lane Pederson joins Team WHL for 2016 CIBC Canada/Russia Series

The Swift Current Broncos and the Western Hockey League announced Friday morning that forward Lane Pederson will be joining Team WHL for the 2016 CIBC Canada Russia Series.

Team WHL will face Team Russia in Game 1 of the 2016 CIBC Canada Russia Series in Prince George, B.C., on Monday, November 7, before continuing on to Edmonton, AB, for Game 2 on Tuesday, November 8.

Pederson has had a marvelous start to the season with the Broncos, recording 16 points (5g-11a) in 15 games.

The 6-1, 195 lb forward was acquired from the Red Deer Rebels via trade last season and for his career, has registered 91 points (33g-58a) in 152 career WHL games.

Pederson previously represented Canada as a member of Team Canada Western at the 2014 World U17 Hockey Challenge, registering three assists in five games.

Furthermore, the native of Saskatoon, SK was signed by the Arizona Coyotes earlier this season to a three-year entry-level contract

The CIBC Canada Russia series is an integral part of the identification process for Team Canada prior to the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.  Canada was represented at this season’s World Junior in Finland by 21 CHL players who competed in this series in 2015, while 13 members of Team Russia’s series entry also competed in Helsinki earning a second straight silver medal.

The 2016 CIBC Canada Russia series is supported by CHL associate sponsors Cooper Tire, and Sherwin-Williams.  All games will be broadcast nationally on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.
