SWIFT CURRENT, SK – The Swift Current Broncos (6-18-1-2) were down 2-0 to the Everett Silvertips (19-6-1-0) just 3:19 into the first period and couldn’t fight their way back as they dropped a 5-1 game on home ice.
Cole Fonstad opened the scoring 3:01 into the game when Isaac Poulter went to puck a puck away in the slot but missed. That allowed Fonstad to slide it into the open net.
Off the next faceoff the puck ended up deep in the Broncos zone again and Gage Goncalves tried a shot from the right circle. It deflected up in the air and bounced to the blocker side of Poulter.
Bryce Kindopp was alone at the side of the net and slapped it off the post and in to give Everett a 2-0 lead with goals just 18 seconds apart.
Later in the third, Kindopp took a stretch pass and came in on a breakaway, beating Poulter over the glove for his second of the game to give Everett a 3-0 lead after two periods.
Early in the third, Matthew Benson was called for cross checking and the Silvertips took just 14 seconds to score when Fonstad spotted Jake Christansen in front to make it 4-0.
The score remainined 4-0 until the third when Jaxan Kaluski broke through the defence and fired a shot past Keegan Karki to cut into Everett’s lead.
The 4-1 score didn’t last long however as Conrad Mitchell got a breakaway and beat Poulter on the blocker side to restore the four-goal lead.
While the Broncos got better after the opening period, the three-goal deficit was too big of a hill to climb in the loss.
Things don’t get any easier for the Broncos when they welcome the Lethbridge Hurricanes to the iPlex tomorrow, their final home game before the Christmas break.
Announced attendance was 2,110.
